World ID verification technology is getting a serious push into the mainstream. On Wednesday, World — the biometric identity startup known for its controversial Orb eye-scanning device — announced new partnerships with Tinder, Visa, Stripe, and other digital platforms to expand adoption and drive user signups.
The tech, developed by Tools for Humanity, enables users to verify their human identity using iris-scanning hardware. These latest integrations are aimed at proving the use cases of World’s system across online dating, finance, and Web3 services — and perhaps even redefine digital trust on a global scale.
From Dating Apps to Crypto Cards: World’s Rapid Expansion
World’s most headline-grabbing partnership is with Match Group’s Tinder app in Japan, where it will offer identity verification to users. The move aims to enhance user safety on the platform while introducing biometric ID checks to the online dating space — a use case where proof of identity and trust are increasingly critical.
The company is also launching The World Card in collaboration with Visa, a crypto-compatible debit card that converts digital assets into fiat currency automatically for use anywhere Visa is accepted. Connected to the World App, the card may also offer rewards tied to AI subscriptions and Web3 services.
In addition to these efforts, World has partnered with:
- Kalshi, a regulated prediction market platform, to allow World users to log in using their verified IDs.
- Morpho, a decentralized lending protocol, to enable verified access via World credentials.
Stripe Partnership Signals Entry Into Digital Payments
As a surprise announcement, World also revealed an upcoming integration with Stripe, one of the largest online payment processors in the world. This collaboration will allow users to pay using World IDs on any Stripe-enabled website or app, although a launch timeline has not been specified.
This expansion into Stripe’s massive payments ecosystem could be a major milestone, offering World a pathway to become a widely accepted verification and transaction layer across the internet.
Building Toward Global Adoption Despite Skepticism
Founded in 2019 and backed by hundreds of millions in venture capital, World has already created digital IDs for millions of people. However, the company has struggled to break through to everyday users due to concerns about privacy and the friction involved in biometric onboarding — namely, having one’s eyeballs scanned in person.
These new integrations are designed to reduce those barriers and give users practical reasons to adopt World’s identity framework.
World’s Growing Web3 and Fintech Ecosystem
Whether World will succeed in becoming a foundational layer of digital identity remains to be seen. But with Tinder, Visa, and Stripe now onboard, its World ID verification technology is closer than ever to moving from fringe concept to global infrastructure.
