Microsoft Tests Copilot with Sora 2 Video Generation and New AI Shopping Tab

Microsoft tests Copilot with Sora 2 video generation and a new AI-powered shopping tab, signaling a major expansion in how users create and shop within the Copilot ecosystem.

The update, currently being tested, adds an AI video generation tool inside Copilot’s Composer menu, alongside familiar options like image creation, podcast generation, quiz building, and deep research reports. This new feature is powered by OpenAI’s Sora 2, the latest and most advanced AI video model that previously required separate access outside the Copilot platform.

AI Video Generation Comes to Copilot

With this integration, users can soon create short AI videos directly inside Copilot — without leaving the app.
For free users, the feature will reportedly be limited to one video per day, similar to existing restrictions on podcasts and research tools. Pro users, however, will likely enjoy unlimited video generation, giving creators, marketers, and educators a seamless way to produce visual content within their workflow.

Industry experts say this move could make Copilot a one-stop creative suite, competing directly with platforms like RunwayML and Pika Labs, while offering a unified Microsoft experience.

Microsoft Adds a New AI Shopping Tab

In addition to Sora 2 integration, Microsoft is rolling out a new “Shopping” tab in the Copilot sidebar — placed alongside sections like Library, Labs, and Discover.

The Shopping tab aims to simplify how users track orders, browse products, and manage e-commerce interactions. It centralizes features previously hidden in the settings menu, highlighting Microsoft’s growing ambition to merge AI creativity with online commerce.

The earlier “Gallery” section appears to be rebranded as “Imagine”, echoing similar naming seen in rival AI ecosystems such as Grok’s Imagine Gallery.

A Step Toward AI-Driven Productivity and Commerce

This dual update — Sora 2 video generation and AI shopping integration — shows how Microsoft is evolving Copilot into more than a productivity assistant. The vision is clear: a hybrid AI platform that handles both creative projects and e-commerce tasks.

While Microsoft hasn’t announced official release dates, insiders suggest these features are part of a broader plan to enhance the Copilot Merchants program and expand native wallet integrations.

If successful, these additions could make Copilot an AI-powered creative and commercial hub, bridging video production, content generation, and shopping — all in one place.

Microsoft’s ongoing Copilot evolution reflects a strategy to combine creativity, productivity, and commerce in a single interface. With Sora 2 video generation and a new AI shopping tab, the future of Copilot looks both powerful and practical for creators, professionals, and shoppers alike.
