Facebook Profile Picture Animation is officially rolling out as part of a new set of Meta AI-powered features designed to make self-expression on Facebook more dynamic and visual.

Starting today, Facebook users can use Facebook Profile Picture Animation to turn a static profile photo into a short animated clip in just seconds. The update is part of a broader Meta AI rollout that enhances profile pictures, Stories, Memories, Feed posts, and text updates.

Bringing Profile Photos to Life With Facebook Profile Picture Animation

At the center of the update is Facebook Profile Picture Animation, which allows users to animate a still photo using preset effects. Available animation styles include natural motion, party hat, confetti, wave, and heart effects—giving users simple ways to match their profile photo to their mood or a special occasion.

Meta recommends using a photo with a single person facing the camera, with a clearly visible face and no objects blocking the subject, to get the best results from Facebook Profile Picture Animation. Users can select images directly from their camera roll or from photos already uploaded to Facebook.

Once animated, the Facebook Profile Picture Animation can be viewed on a user’s profile and shared directly to the Feed. Meta says additional animation styles will be introduced throughout the year, including seasonal and event-based options.

Restyling Stories and Memories With Meta AI

Alongside Facebook Profile Picture Animation, Meta is also introducing Restyle, an AI-powered feature for Stories and Memories.

Restyle allows users to transform the look and feel of an image using preset styles or custom text prompts. After uploading a photo to Stories or selecting a Memory to share, users can tap Restyle and choose from options such as illustrated or anime styles, glowy moods, ethereal lighting, color themes, or backdrops like beaches and cityscapes.

Facebook will also recommend Memories that work well with Restyle, making it easier for users to refresh older content and share it again with a new aesthetic.

Animated Backdrops for Text Posts

Meta AI is also enhancing text-based posts in the Feed. Users can now add animated backdrops to text posts, helping messages stand out visually.

While creating a new text post, users can tap the rainbow “A” icon to choose from multiple still and animated backgrounds, including effects like ocean waves or falling leaves. Meta plans to introduce seasonal animated backgrounds in the future, adding timely visual flair to text updates.
