Uber Eats Cart Assistant uses AI to auto-fill grocery lists, scan handwritten notes, and optimize baskets with prices and availability in real time.
Uber Eats Cart Assistant is Uber’s latest attempt to bring artificial intelligence into one of the most routine parts of daily life: grocery shopping.
The new feature, now available in beta within the Uber Eats app, is designed to help users build grocery baskets faster and with less effort. Instead of manually searching for every item, Uber Eats Assistant uses AI to interpret a shopping list and automatically add relevant products to a user’s cart.
How Uber Eats Cart Assistant Works
To access Uber Eats Cart Assistant, users search for a supported grocery store within the app and tap the Cart Assistant icon displayed at the top of the screen.
From there, shoppers can:
- Manually type out a grocery list
- Upload a photo of a handwritten list
- Submit a screenshot of recipe ingredients
Once the list is submitted, Uber Eats Cart Assistant fetches matching items and adds them directly to the basket. The AI factors in real-time availability before selecting products and displays pricing and promotional offers where applicable.
If the assistant suggests an item the user doesn’t want, it can be removed or swapped. Shoppers can also add forgotten items later in the process. Previously purchased products are prioritized, reducing the need for repeated edits and adjustments.
Uber notes that the Uber Eats Assistant feature is currently in beta and may not perform perfectly during early testing.
AI Expansion Inside Uber Eats
The introduction of Uber Eats Cart Assistant continues the company’s broader AI push across its food delivery and grocery ecosystem.
Last summer, Uber rolled out additional AI-powered tools in the app, including enhanced food images, AI-generated menu descriptions, and AI-powered restaurant review summaries.
With Uber Eats Assistant, the company is focusing specifically on streamlining grocery shopping — an everyday task that many users may welcome AI assistance for.
As artificial intelligence becomes more embedded in consumer apps, Uber Eats Cart Assistant signals how AI is moving beyond novelty features and into practical, time-saving utilities within mainstream platforms.
