The Threads Dear Algo feature is officially live, giving users a new way to personalize their feed using AI-powered controls. Announced by Meta on Wednesday, the Threads Dear Algo feature allows users to temporarily adjust what appears in their timeline simply by making a public post.
Instead of relying solely on passive signals like likes or “Not Interested” buttons, the Threads Dear Algo feature gives users direct influence over their content experience.
How the Threads Dear Algo Feature Works

Using the Dear Algo feature is simple. Users type “Dear Algo” in a public Threads post, followed by what they want to see more or less of.
For example:
“Dear Algo, show me more posts about podcasts.”
Once submitted, the Threads Dear Algo feature adjusts the user’s feed for three days based on that request. After the three-day window, the algorithm reverts to its standard personalization signals.
Because the Threads Dear Algo feature operates through public posts, other users can see the request and even repost it to apply the same preference to their own feed. While this makes personalization social and discoverable, it may also deter users who prefer private adjustments.
Meta describes this community-driven design as intentional, positioning the Threads Dear Algo feature as a way to spark new conversations and surface trending interests.
A Step Beyond ‘Not Interested’
Threads, along with competitors like X and Bluesky, already allows users to signal preferences with a “Not Interested” button. However, the Threads Dear Algo feature goes further by letting users proactively request content shifts in real time.
Meta says Threads is meant to help users keep up with what’s happening right now. But interests can change instantly — whether during a live NBA game or when avoiding spoilers for a TV show.
The Threads Dear Algo feature enables that kind of dynamic shift, giving the platform a real-time personalization layer that competitors currently do not offer.

Where It’s Available
The Threads Dear Algo feature is rolling out in the United States, New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom. Threads plans to expand the feature to more countries in the future.
The launch comes amid growing competition in the social media landscape. According to a recent Similarweb report, Threads now surpasses X in daily mobile usage. As of January 7, 2026, Threads recorded 141.5 million daily active mobile users, compared to X’s 125 million.
Although X still leads in web traffic, Threads’ mobile growth suggests Meta’s strategy — including innovations like the Threads Dear Algo feature — is gaining traction.
By blending AI-driven personalization with public interaction, Threads is attempting to redefine how users shape their feeds.
