India’s push to build domestic artificial intelligence capabilities is gaining momentum, with AI infrastructure startup Neysa securing major financial backing to scale its compute capacity. The Mumbai-based company has received support from U.S. private equity firm Blackstone as demand for local AI infrastructure continues to rise.
Blackstone and its co-investors, including Teachers’ Venture Growth, TVS Capital, 360 ONE Asset, and Nexus Venture Partners, have agreed to invest up to $600 million in primary equity, giving Blackstone a majority stake. The AI infrastructure startup Neysa also plans to raise an additional $600 million in debt financing to expand GPU capacity.
Rising Demand for AI Compute Capacity
The investment comes amid a global surge in demand for specialized chips and data center resources required to train and deploy AI models. Supply constraints have driven the rise of new AI-focused infrastructure providers, often called “neo-clouds,” which offer dedicated GPU capacity and faster deployment compared to traditional hyperscalers.
AI infrastructure startup Neysa operates in this emerging segment, providing customized GPU-first infrastructure for enterprises, government agencies, and AI developers in India. The company focuses on delivering localized compute solutions that meet regulatory requirements, reduce latency, and support specialized workloads.
According to CEO and co-founder Sharad Sanghi, the company provides intensive customer support and customized services that differentiate it from traditional cloud providers.
India’s AI Expansion Driving Growth
Blackstone estimates India currently has fewer than 60,000 GPUs deployed but expects that number to grow nearly 30 times to more than two million in the coming years.
This rapid expansion is being driven by government initiatives, enterprises in regulated sectors such as financial services and healthcare, and AI developers building models locally. Global AI companies are also increasingly deploying computing capacity closer to Indian users to meet data localization requirements and reduce response times.
The funding for AI infrastructure startup Neysa aligns with Blackstone’s broader strategy of investing in data center and AI infrastructure worldwide. The firm has previously supported major data center platforms including QTS and AirTrunk, as well as specialized AI infrastructure providers such as CoreWeave and Firmus.
Scaling GPU Capacity and Infrastructure
AI infrastructure startup Neysa currently operates around 1,200 GPUs and plans to scale significantly, targeting deployments of more than 20,000 GPUs over time. The company expects to more than triple its capacity next year as demand for AI workloads continues to accelerate.
A large portion of the new funding will be used to deploy high-performance GPU clusters, including compute systems, networking infrastructure, and storage. Additional investment will support research and development as well as software platforms for orchestration, security, and system monitoring.
Sanghi said ongoing customer discussions suggest growth could accelerate even faster, with significant expansion possible within the next nine months.
India’s Growing Role in Global AI Infrastructure
Founded in 2023, AI infrastructure startup Neysa employs about 110 people across offices in Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai. The company aims to expand beyond India over time while strengthening the country’s domestic AI ecosystem.
As enterprises, researchers, and public sector organizations increasingly rely on localized AI computing resources, the company’s expansion reflects India’s broader ambition to become a major global hub for AI infrastructure and innovation.
