Indian artificial intelligence startup Sarvam is expanding the reach of its newly launched Sarvam edge AI models by bringing them to Nokia feature phones, cars, and smart glasses. The move signals the company’s push to deliver AI-powered experiences across everyday devices using lightweight, offline-capable technology.

Speaking at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, the company revealed that its Sarvam edge AI models are designed to run directly on devices. These models occupy only a few megabytes of space, work with existing processors and can operate without continuous internet connectivity.

Sarvam, backed by investors including Lightspeed, PeakXV and Khosla Ventures, aims to expand AI accessibility beyond smartphones and cloud-based systems.

AI Assistants Coming to Nokia Feature Phones

As part of its expansion strategy, Sarvam is partnering with HMD to integrate Sarvam edge AI models into Nokia and HMD feature phones. The collaboration will introduce a conversational AI assistant accessible through a dedicated AI button on the device.

A demonstration showed users interacting with the assistant in local languages to receive guidance on government schemes and local market information. While the models are built for offline functionality, it remains unclear whether all showcased features will operate without internet access.

According to Tushar Goswamy, head of Edge AI at Sarvam, the company’s vision is to embed intelligence across multiple devices. He said the goal is to deliver AI capabilities across phones, laptops, cars and emerging technologies.

Partnership With Qualcomm for Device Optimization

To support wider deployment, Sarvam has worked with Qualcomm to optimize its Sarvam edge AI models for the chipmaker’s processors. This collaboration is expected to enhance performance across a broad range of devices.

Qualcomm is also developing a “Sovereign AI Experience Suite,” which aims to support AI applications across phones, PCs, laptops, cars and IoT devices. Sarvam co-founder and CEO Vivek Raghwan said the partnership would help accelerate the transition of sovereign AI technologies from research to large-scale deployment.

The company noted that running models closer to the device edge helps protect user data while enabling scalable adoption.

AI Assistants for Cars and Smart Glasses

Beyond mobile devices, Sarvam is working with German engineering firm Bosch to introduce AI assistants in cars, though details about the integration remain limited.

The startup also unveiled Sarvam Kaze, a pair of AI-powered smart glasses designed and manufactured in India. The company described the device as a “builders’ platform,” with availability expected in May.

These developments highlight Sarvam’s effort to create new consumer-focused AI products powered by its edge computing capabilities.

Shift From Enterprise to Consumer AI

Sarvam has traditionally focused on enterprise solutions, particularly voice-based AI systems used in customer support environments. However, the rollout of Sarvam edge AI models across feature phones, vehicles and wearable devices indicates a shift toward consumer applications.

The company’s new partnerships and product initiatives suggest a broader strategy to make AI more accessible, localized and embedded directly into everyday technologies.
