San Francisco-based startup Kana has officially emerged from stealth with a new platform of Kana AI marketing agents, securing $15 million in seed funding to build flexible AI-driven solutions designed to transform modern marketing operations.
The new platform aims to help marketers automate complex tasks such as campaign management, audience targeting, and customer engagement, while maintaining human oversight. The funding round was led by Mayfield, signaling strong investor confidence in the company’s vision.
Kana AI Marketing Agents Target Modern Marketing Challenges
Marketing remains a critical function across industries, and businesses are increasingly adopting AI-powered tools to improve performance. Against a crowded landscape of AI solutions from platforms like Google, Microsoft, and social media companies, Kana is positioning its AI technology as a flexible and customizable alternative.
The Kana AI marketing agents platform offers capabilities including data analysis, media planning, customer engagement, campaign tracking, and optimization for AI chatbot interactions. The system is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing marketing software while enabling multiple AI agents to work simultaneously across different operations.
For example, marketers can upload a media brief and allow the AI agents to analyze campaign goals, identify target audiences, and gather data from inventory and market research to refine strategies. The platform also includes automated campaign monitoring, optimization, and performance reporting.
Veteran Founders Bring Decades of Experience
Kana’s founders, CEO Tom Chavez and CTO Vivek Vaidya, bring more than 25 years of experience building marketing technology. The duo previously founded Rapt, acquired by Microsoft in 2008, and Krux, later acquired by Salesforce in 2016.
Kana represents their fourth venture following their startup studio super{set}, where the company was incubated for nine months before launch. According to Chavez, the current moment presents a major opportunity to combine industry expertise with emerging AI capabilities.
He said businesses are actively seeking solutions that address real marketing challenges, adding that the company’s deep understanding of the industry enables it to respond to customer needs more effectively.
Flexible AI Agents and Synthetic Data Capabilities
A key feature of Kana AI marketing agents is their “loosely coupled” architecture, allowing businesses to deploy and customize AI agents in real time. This flexibility enables organizations to tailor solutions to specific marketing workflows and adapt strategies quickly.
The platform also includes synthetic data generation, which supplements third-party data for market research and audience targeting. The company says this feature helps reduce data costs, fill information gaps, and accelerate testing across marketing channels.
Despite its automation capabilities, Kana emphasizes a human-in-the-loop approach. Marketers can review AI actions, provide feedback, and control how the system operates, ensuring transparency and oversight.
Strategy Focuses on Speed and Customization
Kana’s leadership believes flexibility and speed will differentiate the platform from competitors. The ability to rapidly deploy and adjust AI agents allows marketers to execute campaigns faster than traditional legacy systems.
The company sees this customization capability as a key competitive advantage, particularly against larger enterprises and established marketing technology providers. By enabling businesses to build and configure solutions collaboratively, Kana aims to deliver tailored marketing strategies without requiring fully bespoke development.
Funding to Drive Expansion and Growth
The newly secured funding will support hiring across engineering, product development, and go-to-market teams. Mayfield managing partner Navin Chaddha will also join the company’s board as part of the investment.
With growing demand for AI-powered marketing automation, Kana is betting that its flexible AI agent platform can help businesses streamline operations and improve campaign performance while maintaining human oversight.
