OpenAI GitHub alternative may soon become a reality as the company reportedly works on a new code-hosting platform designed to compete with Microsoft’s GitHub.

According to a report by The Information, OpenAI has begun developing a new code repository platform after its engineers experienced increasing service disruptions that made GitHub unavailable in recent months. The issues reportedly prompted the company to explore building its own infrastructure for managing and hosting code.

The project is still in the early stages and may take months before it is ready.

OpenAI GitHub Alternative Could Reduce Microsoft Dependency

The OpenAI GitHub alternative project appears partly motivated by reliability concerns and the company’s reliance on existing code-hosting platforms.

Engineers reportedly encountered repeated disruptions that affected their ability to access GitHub services, which led to internal discussions about creating a dedicated platform.
