X AI Custom Feeds Launch With Grok-Powered Timelines for Premium Users

X AI Custom Feeds are rolling out as the platform introduces Grok-powered timelines designed to give users more personalized topic-based browsing.

The new feature lets users explore more than 75 curated topics through custom feeds that can be pinned directly to the home tab. According to X, Grok AI not only builds these timelines but also personalizes them for individual users, marking one of the company’s biggest product changes in recent months.

X AI Custom Feeds Bring Topic Timelines to Home Tabs

With X AI Custom Feeds, users can swipe past the existing For You and Following tabs to add new timelines based on specific interests.

The feature is currently available to Premium subscribers on iOS, while Android support is in development. All Premium tiers can access it. Users can pin up to 10 custom topics or lists and reorder them whenever needed.

Once pinned, those feeds become instantly accessible from the home tab across supported platforms.

Powered by Grok Instead of Hashtags

One of the more notable details behind X AI Custom Feeds is how they are built.

A company representative said the timelines are not based on traditional signals such as keywords or hashtags. Instead, Grok reads posts, understands their meaning, and applies topic labels. That system is powered by AI models from xAI, the company that acquired X last year.

This tighter connection between X and xAI shows how the platform is increasingly integrating AI into core discovery features.

75+ Categories Cover News, Sports, Tech, and Culture

The initial list of topics is broad and includes categories such as Business & Finance, Sports, Technology, Politics, Science, Movies & TV, Gaming, Education, Beauty, and Food & Drink.

Sports fans can also follow specific interests like basketball, cricket, Formula 1, tennis, soccer, baseball, boxing, golf, and the Olympics.

In entertainment and culture, users can choose feeds focused on music, podcasts, fashion, celebs, K-pop, J-pop, hip-hop, and more. There are also dedicated categories for Artificial Intelligence, Cryptocurrency, robotics, software development, biotech, and space.

Ads and Discovery Strategy

The rollout may also have business implications.

According to testing referenced in the report, the second slot in each feed was occupied by an advertisement. That suggests X AI Custom Feeds could create additional ad inventory for the platform at a time when its advertising business has faced pressure since Elon Musk’s acquisition.

News Curation Questions Remain

Among the news-related categories, suggestions included the Iran conflict, crime, and elections.

The report noted that product decisions like category ordering can influence what information users see first. It also raised broader questions about AI-driven curation, given concerns around misinformation and political neutrality tied to AI systems.

In limited testing, however, the feeds reportedly included content from a wide mix of outlets such as ABC, CBS, AP, Reuters, AFP, Bloomberg, BBC, Al Jazeera, Forbes, and others.

Why It Matters

X AI Custom Feeds show how social platforms are moving beyond one main algorithmic feed and into personalized, interest-based experiences.

Whether the feature changes long-term user behavior is still unclear, but it gives subscribers another way to explore topics only when they matter most.
