Sierra Acquires Fragment as Bret Taylor Expands Enterprise AI Push

Sierra acquires Fragment in another notable move for the fast-growing customer service agent company founded by Bret Taylor. The startup announced that it has purchased YC-backed French company Fragment, a business focused on helping enterprises integrate AI into workflows.

Sierra Acquires Fragment to Strengthen AI Workflows

The latest transaction marks Sierra’s third public acquisition. Earlier, the company announced deals for Japan-based enterprise AI solutions provider Opera Tech and voice agent startup Receptive AI, both disclosed in late March.

With Sierra acquires Fragment now official, Fragment co-founders Olivier Moindrot and Guillaume Genthial are set to join Sierra’s team.

New Talent to Support Global Agent Development

In a company blog post, Taylor and co-founder Clay Bavor said the two founders will add “valuable strength” to Sierra’s agent development efforts in France. The statement highlights Sierra’s continued focus on building international AI talent and expanding its enterprise capabilities.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed. According to PitchBook, Fragment raised about $2 million in seed funding.

Sierra’s Rapid Growth Under Bret Taylor

Taylor, who also serves as chairman of the board at OpenAI, launched Sierra with former Google executive Clay Bavor after leaving his role as co-CEO of Salesforce in early 2023.

Since then, Sierra has moved quickly in the enterprise AI market. The company says customers include Casper, Clear, and Brex. It has also raised more than $630 million in funding from investors such as Sequoia and Benchmark, reaching a reported $10 billion valuation.

Why the Deal Matters

The Sierra acquires Fragment announcement shows how aggressively enterprise AI companies are expanding through acquisitions. Instead of relying only on internal development, firms are using targeted deals to add talent, products, and regional expertise faster.

For Sierra, the latest move adds workflow AI expertise while strengthening its presence in Europe. That could be important as competition intensifies in the race to build enterprise-ready AI agents.
