Perplexity Personal Computer Launches for All Mac Users With Local AI Agent Features

Perplexity Personal Computer is now officially rolling out to all Mac users through Perplexity AI’s desktop application, expanding access to the company’s AI-powered local agent platform. The feature, which was previously limited to Perplexity Max subscribers through a waitlist, is now available as part of the company’s new Mac app.

The launch marks Perplexity’s latest move into the growing market for local AI agents — systems designed to handle tasks directly across a user’s files, applications, and workflows instead of operating purely in the cloud.

According to the company, Perplexity Personal Computer is designed to bring its broader “Perplexity Computer” capabilities onto users’ own devices, allowing AI agents to interact with local files, native apps, web tools, and connected services.

Perplexity Personal Computer Focuses on Local AI Workflows

Perplexity describes Personal Computer as a way to move AI-assisted work beyond cloud-only environments.

The company said the software can access local files, native Mac applications, web tools, and more than 400 connectors while using personal context to complete multi-step workflows.

According to Perplexity, the system operates within a secure development environment hosted on the company’s servers.

The tool is also designed to work alongside Perplexity’s AI-powered Comet browser, allowing agents to interact with web-based tools even without direct service connectors.

Why Perplexity Personal Computer Matters

The release comes as interest in local AI agents continues to grow across the tech industry.

Tools like OpenClaw Github helped popularize the idea of autonomous AI agents capable of performing tasks for users. However, concerns around elevated permissions and security risks have also become part of the discussion surrounding these systems.

Perplexity appears to be positioning Personal Computer as a more controlled and secure alternative for AI-assisted computing workflows.

The company says the software can help users manage tasks involving spreadsheets, documents, notes, and projects spread across multiple applications.

Because the AI agents can operate across apps, the tool may also support actions such as comparing files from separate programs or pulling notes from one application to create drafts in another.

Remote Access and Mac Integration Expand Capabilities

Perplexity said Personal Computer is designed to run autonomous agents on always-on devices such as a Mac Mini.

The company also noted that users can remotely access the platform from an iPhone to initiate tasks or approve requests while away from their computers.

At launch, anyone can download the new Mac app directly from Perplexity. However, access to Perplexity Personal Computer still requires either a Pro or Max subscription.

The company also confirmed that its older Mac app will gradually be phased out over the coming weeks as development shifts fully toward the new Personal Computer platform.

For now, the updated Mac app is only available as a direct download and has not yet been released through the Mac App Store.

Perplexity Pushes Deeper Into AI Agent Competition

The broader AI industry has increasingly shifted toward tools capable of handling autonomous workflows instead of simply answering prompts.

Perplexity Personal Computer reflects that trend by focusing on AI agents that can actively work across apps, files, and connected services in real-world computing environments.

As more companies race to develop AI-powered digital workers, the launch positions Perplexity more directly alongside emerging AI agent platforms competing to redefine how users interact with their devices.
