The Google Create My Widget feature is bringing a new level of AI-powered customization to Android devices. Announced by Google on Tuesday, the upcoming tool will allow users to create personalized widgets simply by describing what they want in natural language.
The feature is expected to arrive first on the latest Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel smartphones later this summer.
Instead of manually configuring widgets or downloading third-party tools, users will be able to type requests directly into Gemini to generate custom dashboards tailored to their personal preferences and routines.
Google Create My Widget Feature Uses Natural Language Prompts
The Google Create My Widget feature is designed to make widget creation far more conversational and accessible.
According to Google, users can simply describe the type of information they want displayed on their home screen. For example, someone interested in meal planning could ask for “three high-protein meal prep recipes every week” and receive a custom, resizable dashboard generated automatically.
The company also shared an example aimed at cyclists. A user who only cares about wind speed and rain conditions could generate a weather widget focused specifically on those details instead of broader forecasts.
The feature reflects Google’s broader push to simplify customization through generative AI tools.
Gemini Powers Personalized Android Dashboards
Google said Gemini will play a central role in the new experience.
The AI assistant can reportedly pull information from the web while also connecting with Google services like Gmail and Calendar to generate more personalized widgets.
One example shared by the company involved planning a family reunion in Berlin. In that scenario, Gemini could combine flight details, hotel information, restaurant reservations, and a countdown timer into a single dashboard displayed directly on the home screen.
The goal appears to be reducing the need for users to jump between multiple apps to track everyday information.
Google Expands AI Deeper Into Android
The Google Create My Widget feature is part of a larger effort by Google to integrate generative AI more deeply into the Android ecosystem.
During a briefing with reporters, Ben Greenwood described the experience as similar to asking a personal assistant for ongoing updates.
According to Greenwood, the system is designed to answer questions related to both world knowledge and personal user information, creating a wider range of possible use cases.
The company introduced the feature alongside Gemini Intelligence, another initiative aimed at expanding AI functionality across Android devices.
Gemini Intelligence Adds More AI Features to Android
In addition to the widget announcement, Google also revealed new Gemini Intelligence capabilities for Android.
The broader rollout will include features such as advanced autofill tools, AI-powered voice dictation for Gboard, and additional AI-assisted experiences across the operating system.
The announcements highlight how major tech companies are increasingly competing to make AI-powered personalization and productivity tools a core part of everyday smartphone experiences.
For now, the Google Create My Widget feature remains limited to select Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices ahead of its expected launch later this year.
