OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Pulse, a new feature designed to deliver personalized morning briefs for users — making ChatGPT more proactive and assistant-like than ever before.
Launching first for subscribers of OpenAI’s $200-a-month Pro plan, ChatGPT Pulse will generate five to ten AI-curated reports overnight, so users can wake up to a tailored briefing that helps them start their day.
ChatGPT Pulse Aims to Be More Proactive
The feature reflects a broader shift in OpenAI’s consumer strategy. Until now, ChatGPT has mostly been a reactive chatbot, responding to user queries. With Pulse, OpenAI wants ChatGPT to function more like a personal assistant that takes the initiative.
“We’re building AI that makes high-level assistance accessible to everyone,” said Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications. “ChatGPT Pulse is the first step in that direction.”
How ChatGPT Pulse Works
Pulse delivers personalized reports in a card-based format. Examples include:
- News roundups on favorite topics
- Calendar-based daily agendas
- Personalized travel itineraries
- Creative suggestions like group costumes or menu ideas
Users can click each card for detailed insights and query ChatGPT for more context. Pulse is also compatible with ChatGPT Connectors, so it can access Google Calendar or Gmail to surface emails or upcoming events.
If ChatGPT memory is enabled, Pulse tailors recommendations further — for instance, adding running routes to a travel itinerary for fitness enthusiasts.
Designed to Avoid Social Media Addiction Loops
Unlike engagement-driven platforms, Pulse limits itself to a few reports per day, displaying a message: “Great, that’s it for today.”
OpenAI says this design choice differentiates Pulse from traditional social feeds while keeping the focus on useful, concise information rather than infinite scrolling.
Computational Challenges and Future Plans
Currently, ChatGPT Pulse is exclusive to Pro subscribers due to its high computing requirements, but OpenAI plans to expand access to Plus and free users once efficiency improves.
Eventually, OpenAI envisions Pulse becoming fully agentic — handling tasks like restaurant reservations or drafting emails — but this will require further advances in agentic AI models before mass adoption.
