DeepSeek Valuation Could Reach $45B as Chinese AI Startup Prepares First Funding Round

DeepSeek valuation discussions are accelerating fast as the Chinese AI startup reportedly prepares to raise its first-ever venture capital round at a potential valuation of up to $45 billion.

The company, which gained global attention earlier this year for its low-cost AI models, is now emerging as one of the most closely watched players in the artificial intelligence race.

Why the DeepSeek Valuation Is Climbing Rapidly

According to reports from the Financial Times and Bloomberg, DeepSeek valuation has jumped from around $20 billion to as much as $45 billion within just a few weeks.

The Chinese AI lab rose to prominence in early 2025 after launching a large language model that reportedly required only a fraction of the computing power and cost used by major U.S. competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic.

Despite operating with lower compute demands, DeepSeek has continued to remain competitive in areas like reasoning and coding. The company has also kept its models open-weight, making versions freely available on Hugging Face.

DeepSeek Founder Reportedly Seeks Funding to Retain Talent

The startup was founded by Chinese hedge fund billionaire Liang Wenfeng, who reportedly controls nearly 90% of the company.

Until now, DeepSeek had not actively pursued outside investors. However, the Financial Times reported that the company is now considering raising capital partly because competitors have started poaching DeepSeek researchers.

According to sources cited by the publication, the new funding would allow the company to offer employees equity in the business.

Chinese Investors Back DeepSeek’s AI Expansion

Bloomberg reported that the funding round may be led by China Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund, a state-backed investment vehicle focused on strengthening domestic semiconductor and AI capabilities.

The move reflects China’s broader effort to develop homegrown AI technologies while reducing dependence on U.S. hardware and software systems.

DeepSeek’s models have reportedly been optimized to run on chips developed by Huawei Technologies, a combination viewed as strategically important for China’s AI ambitions.

The report also stated that Chinese tech giants Tencent and Alibaba Group are in talks to participate in the investment round.

DeepSeek Valuation Highlights China’s Growing AI Push

The growing DeepSeek valuation signals how aggressively China is investing in artificial intelligence infrastructure and talent.

As competition intensifies between Chinese and U.S. AI companies, DeepSeek’s rise shows that lower-cost AI development strategies are beginning to attract serious global attention.

With its first funding round now taking shape, the company could soon become one of the highest-valued AI startups in the world.
