Fitbit Gemini Coach Expands to iPhone and Global Markets in Major AI Upgrade

Fitbit Gemini Coach is officially expanding beyond its Android-only debut, with Google announcing that the AI-powered health assistant will roll out to iPhone users starting February 10.

After launching as a US-exclusive preview for Android-based Fitbit Premium subscribers, Fitbit Gemini Coach is now opening up to iOS users and expanding internationally. Premium subscribers in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore will also gain access to the AI-driven coaching experience in English across both Android and iPhone.

This marks a significant step in Google’s effort to transform Fitbit from a traditional fitness tracker into a proactive, AI-powered wellness platform.

Fitbit Gemini Coach Comes to iPhone

Initially introduced in late October as an optional public preview, Fitbit Gemini Coach was limited to eligible Android users in the United States. Google has since gathered feedback to refine the redesigned Fitbit app and its built-in AI assistant.

With this expansion to iPhone, Fitbit Gemini Coach will now reach iPhone users, significantly broadening its footprint. The feature remains exclusive to Fitbit Premium subscribers, priced at $10 per month or $80 per year.

The preview continues to be optional, meaning users can toggle between the old and new app interfaces without losing their data.

What Fitbit Gemini Coach Actually Does

The redesigned Fitbit app features a cleaner interface built around four core tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep and Health.

The Today tab focuses on weekly trends rather than day-to-day fluctuations, aiming to give users a clearer picture of long-term progress. The other sections allow deeper exploration of sleep stages, vitals, and fitness metrics.

At the heart of the experience is Fitbit Gemini Coach, accessible via the “Ask Coach” prompt. This AI assistant analyzes both real-time and historical data to provide insights and personalized recommendations.

Users can ask practical questions like:

  • “I have 30 minutes for a workout. What do you recommend?”
  • “How can I improve my VO2 max?”
  • “Do I sleep better on days when I walk more?”

During onboarding, Fitbit Gemini Coach initiates a short 5–10 minute conversation (via text or voice) to understand user goals, equipment availability and physical limitations. From there, the plan adapts dynamically based on training load, readiness scores and overnight recovery metrics.

Importantly, participation in Fitbit Gemini Coach is opt-in. Users who prefer a traditional tracking experience can continue without AI-driven coaching.

Global Rollout and Device Compatibility

The Fitbit Gemini Coach expansion includes Premium subscribers aged 18 and older in the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. The feature works with compatible Fitbit trackers, smartwatches and Pixel Watch devices.

Google has integrated a feedback tool into the preview phase, signaling that user input will shape the final version of Fitbit Gemini Coach. While no official end date for the preview has been announced, Google says the experience will gradually expand to more users and devices.

The Bigger AI Health Play

With Fitbit Gemini Coach, Google is leveraging its ecosystem of hardware, software and AI to differentiate itself in the increasingly competitive digital health space.

Rather than acting as a passive data collector, the platform is designed to become an “always-on” wellness companion. Google states that the coach was developed with input from health experts and consumer advisory panels, and that user data will not be used for advertising.

The success of Fitbit Gemini Coach will ultimately depend on execution — particularly in areas of privacy, data security and actionable accuracy. If it delivers on its promise, it could redefine how everyday users interact with health data.

For now, Fitbit Gemini Coach stands as one of Google’s most ambitious steps toward AI-powered personalized wellness.
