Google has officially started rolling out the Fitbit Gemini-powered health coach, a new AI-driven fitness and wellness feature that’s now available in public preview to Premium users in the U.S. on Android. iOS users can expect access later this year.
The new Fitbit Gemini-powered health coach, also known simply as “Coach,” is designed to act as your personal trainer, sleep consultant, and wellness advisor — all in one. Google hopes this Gemini integration will help Fitbit stand out in an increasingly crowded AI-powered fitness market.
An AI That Understands Your Fitness Goals
At the Made by Google event, the company showcased how the Fitbit Gemini-powered health coach can generate personalized routines based on your fitness goals, equipment, and preferences.
Want to increase your stamina or run longer without getting tired? Coach will automatically craft a tailored workout plan with step-by-step goals and adaptive suggestions. As you progress, it updates your training schedule in real time. If you get injured or miss workouts, it dynamically adjusts the plan to help you recover and stay consistent.
This intelligent adaptability is powered by Google’s Gemini AI, marking a major leap toward personalized, predictive fitness coaching.
Smarter Sleep and Health Insights
Beyond workouts, the Fitbit Gemini-powered health coach also helps improve sleep quality. It analyzes sleep patterns, tracks interruptions, and offers practical recommendations for achieving better rest.
The app’s new Sleep tab includes AI-powered summaries, giving you a nightly breakdown of rest quality and potential improvements based on your recent trends.
A Revamped Fitbit Experience
The revamped Fitbit app features a modern design organized around four intuitive tabs: Today, Fitness, Sleep, and Health.
- Today Tab: Displays your core health metrics, weekly cardio data, and quick insights, all customizable to your priorities.
- Fitness Tab: Central hub for workouts and performance tracking, from cardio load to step counts.
- Sleep Tab: Monitors sleep cycles and integrates with the Fitbit Gemini-powered health coach for actionable insights.
- Health Tab: Tracks vital signs like breathing rate, SpO₂, and heart rate for a comprehensive wellness snapshot.
Google also uploaded a demo video on its Made by Google YouTube channel, offering a visual walkthrough of these updates.
Availability and What to Expect
To access the Fitbit Gemini-powered health coach, users need an active Fitbit Premium subscription and a compatible device — such as a Fitbit smartwatch, tracker, or Pixel Watch.
While features like nutrition tracking and menstrual cycle logging are still under development, Google says future updates will expand Coach’s capabilities to cover more aspects of health and wellness.
With Gemini AI now at the heart of Fitbit’s ecosystem, the Fitbit Gemini-powered health coach could redefine how we approach daily fitness — combining data, personalization, and real-time adaptation into one smart assistant.
