Spotify AI Prompted Playlists Expand to UK and Global Markets, Transforming Music Discovery

Spotify is expanding its music discovery experience with the global rollout of Spotify AI Prompted Playlists, a feature that allows users to generate personalized playlists simply by describing what they want to hear.

After initial testing in New Zealand and launches in the United States and Canada, the company has now introduced Spotify AI Prompted Playlists to Premium subscribers in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia and Sweden, signaling a broader push into AI-driven music personalization.

Spotify AI Prompted Playlists Expand Globally

The Spotify AI Prompted Playlists feature lets users create custom playlists using natural language prompts. Instead of manually searching for songs or artists, listeners can describe a mood, activity or inspiration, and Spotify’s AI curates a playlist based on the request.

Users can access the feature by selecting “Create” and choosing “Prompted Playlist,” then entering a prompt in English. The system interprets themes such as emotions, aesthetics, memories, musical genres, eras, instruments or activities. It can also generate playlists inspired by TV shows, movies or personal milestones.

Spotify’s AI analyzes listening history alongside current music and cultural trends to build tailored playlists. Each selected track also includes a brief explanation explaining why it fits the user’s request.

Personalised Music Discovery Through AI

Spotify AI Prompted Playlists aim to simplify music discovery by allowing highly personalized experiences. Users can refine playlists by adjusting prompts, restarting requests or specifying whether they want new music or tracks from their existing library.

The feature also supports scheduled updates, enabling playlists to refresh automatically on a daily or weekly basis. This ensures recommendations evolve alongside users’ changing musical preferences.

Since the feature remains in beta, Spotify said usage limits are currently in place and performance may change as the company collects feedback. Some users have reported hitting prompt limits after approximately 20 to 30 requests.

Spotify Expands AI Across Its Platform

The rollout of Spotify AI Prompted Playlists is part of a broader strategy to integrate artificial intelligence throughout the platform.

The company recently introduced additional AI-driven features such as Page Match, which allows users to scan a physical book page to find the corresponding section in an audiobook, and About This Song, which provides contextual insights about tracks. Spotify has also enhanced its lyrics feature with global translations and offline access.

In another move to improve user experience, SeatGeek partnered with Spotify to enable listeners to find concert ticket links directly from artist pages and tour listings within the app.

Spotify is also applying AI internally to accelerate development processes. Earlier this month, co-CEO Gustav Söderström revealed that some of the company’s top developers have not written a line of code since December, as AI tools handle significant portions of the workflow.

Expanding Beyond Streaming

Alongside its AI initiatives, Spotify continues to expand its business model. The company is growing its audiobook segment and plans to allow users in the United States and the United Kingdom to purchase physical books directly through the app.

With the global rollout of Spotify AI Prompted Playlists, the company is positioning artificial intelligence as a central driver of user engagement, personalization, and platform growth.
