YouTube AI Search Feature is now being tested as the platform introduces a new interactive search experience designed to give users guided answers instead of only standard video results.
The new tool, called “Ask YouTube,” lets users search for topics such as recipes, travel plans, and other how-to requests using natural language questions. Responses include a mix of text, short clips, and longer videos presented in step-by-step format.

Why the YouTube AI Search Feature Matters
Many users already turn to YouTube for planning trips, learning recipes, and finding tutorials. This update aims to make those searches faster and more useful by organizing results into guided responses.
Instead of scrolling through multiple videos, users can receive structured answers with relevant content surfaced in one place.
How the YouTube AI Search Feature Works
Google said users can ask questions such as “plan a 3-day road trip from San Francisco to Santa Barbara” and receive step-by-step results.
Those answers may include written guidance, short videos, and full-length videos. The platform also shows relevant video segments along with titles and channel details to help users discover creators.
Users can then continue the conversation with follow-up questions such as “Where can I get good coffee?” and receive similar responses.

Who Can Access It Now
The feature is currently available to YouTube Premium subscribers in the United States who are 18 years or older.
Interested users need to opt into the experiment. Google also said it is working on expanding access to non-Premium users in the future.
YouTube AI Search Feature Fits Google’s Bigger AI Push
Google has been extending its AI-powered search tools across multiple products.
The company introduced AI Mode last year for multi-part questions and follow-ups. This year, it added features such as side-by-side web browsing and product price exploration. It also launched Gemini’s Canvas feature last month for managing projects within AI Mode.
What Could Come Next
The report noted that this YouTube test could eventually lead to new ways of surfacing videos and potentially sponsored placements.
For creators, brands, and users, that could make search on YouTube look very different in the near future.
