OpenAI has officially launched its ChatGPT Go plan in Indonesia, marking the company’s second major expansion of its budget-friendly AI subscription service after its debut in India last month. The plan, priced at just Rp75,000 ($4.50) per month, aims to make advanced AI tools accessible to a wider audience at an affordable rate.
The ChatGPT Go plan in Indonesia is positioned as a mid-tier subscription, sitting between OpenAI’s free version and the premium $20-per-month ChatGPT Plus plan. With this plan, users in Indonesia will enjoy 10 times higher usage limits compared to the free tier, enabling them to send more prompts, generate AI images, and upload files seamlessly.
Nick Turley, Head of ChatGPT, highlighted on X that the ChatGPT Go plan in Indonesia also improves memory features, allowing the chatbot to recall previous conversations for more personalized interactions.
“Since we launched the ChatGPT Go plan in India, the number of paid subscribers has more than doubled,” Turley noted, suggesting strong demand for affordable AI access.
Competing With Google in the AI Subscription Market
OpenAI’s move to introduce the ChatGPT Go plan in Indonesia puts it in direct competition with Google, which recently launched its AI Plus subscription plan in the country at a similar price point.
Google’s AI Plus plan provides access to its Gemini 2.5 Pro chatbot and creative tools like Flow, Whisk, and Veo 3 Fast for image and video generation. Additionally, the plan integrates AI into Gmail, Docs, and Sheets, offers enhanced research capabilities through NotebookLM, and comes with 200GB of cloud storage.
Driving AI Adoption in Emerging Markets
The ChatGPT Go plan in Indonesia reflects OpenAI’s strategy to tap into emerging markets where affordability is key to driving AI adoption. By offering high-usage limits and advanced features at a fraction of the cost of its premium plan, OpenAI aims to bring more users into its ecosystem while competing head-to-head with Google’s AI services.
