Google Search Live in India Launched: AI Mode Expands to Kannada and Other Local Languages

Google has officially launched its generative AI-powered Search Live feature in India, making it the second country after the U.S. to receive the cutting-edge experience.

The Google Search Live in India update integrates the advanced capabilities of Project Astra directly into AI Mode on the Google Search app. This innovation enables users to engage in natural, real-time conversations with their devices — powered by Google’s most advanced speech and visual understanding models.

What Is Google Search Live?

Search Live is a mobile-first, interactive AI experience designed to provide real-time help. Users can ask questions out loud and even share live camera input to give the AI more context — resulting in faster and more accurate responses.

For example, if you’re trying to make a matcha drink, you can simply point your camera at your ingredients and ask, “How do I make a matcha latte?” The AI will instantly walk you through the process, offering step-by-step instructions and exact ingredient quantities.

Similarly, you can use Search Live to declutter your space. Just activate AI Mode with your camera and ask where to start — the tool will visually assess your surroundings and guide you efficiently.

Multilingual AI Expansion

Initially, Google Search Live in India supports English and Hindi. However, Google confirmed that AI Mode will soon expand to seven more Indian languages:
Kannada, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam, and Urdu.

“Our custom Gemini model for Search goes beyond translation. It truly understands the subtleties of local languages to make AI Mode genuinely helpful,” said Google in its announcement.

A Step Toward Inclusive AI

With this launch, Google reinforces its commitment to making AI more accessible and context-aware for diverse linguistic users in India. The company aims to provide a seamless, intuitive experience that adapts to the way users naturally communicate.

The rollout of new languages for AI Mode is expected over the coming weeks, marking another milestone in Google’s push toward localized, AI-driven search innovation.
