On Thursday, Google announced a major update for Gemini Gems — custom AI assistants designed for specialized tasks like brainstorming, learning, writing, or coding. Initially introduced in Gemini Advanced last year, Gems allowed users to build AI chatbots tailored for specific needs.
Now, Google says Gem sharing is rolling out, making it possible to share these assistants as easily as sharing a document on Google Drive.

With this update, users can:

For instance, a team working on a content calendar can now share one Gemini AI assistant to handle drafts and revisions, ensuring everyone uses the same version. Families can share Gems for vacation planning, meal prep, or budgeting.
How to Share a Gemini Gem
Sharing is simple:
- Open the Gem manager in the Gemini web app.
- Click the “Share” icon next to the Gem you want to share.
- Set permissions for viewing, using, or editing — just like with Google Drive.
This integration streamlines collaboration, especially for businesses and creators managing multiple projects.
From Exclusive Feature to Global Access
Originally, Gemini Gems launched for Gemini Advanced subscribers. In March, Google expanded availability to all users in over 150 countries, including support for file uploads.
