Semi-Structured Data

« Back to Glossary Index

Semi-structured data is data that is organized in a flexible way but does not follow the rigid structure of traditional databases. While it has some organizational elements, such as tags or markers, it doesn’t conform to the rows and columns of relational databases. The attributes of the data may vary, even though they are grouped together.

Examples include forms, where fields may differ, and object databases, where data is represented as objects that are interconnected, such as the relationship between automobile make, model, and trim level.
