Amazon has officially rolled out its most advanced artificial intelligence model to date — the Amazon Nova Premier AI model. Introduced on Wednesday, Nova Premier expands the tech giant’s Nova series and is now accessible through Amazon Bedrock, the platform’s AI development environment.

This latest model stands out for its ability to handle text, images, and video simultaneously, though audio processing is not yet included. Amazon states that Nova Premier is optimized for intricate operations requiring strong contextual awareness, multi-step task execution, and integration across diverse tools and datasets.

A Major Step in Amazon’s AI Evolution

Originally revealed at the AWS re:Invent event last December, the Nova model series has since grown to include image-generation tools, video AI systems, and other multimodal solutions. Nova Premier builds on that progress with a context window of up to 1 million tokens — allowing it to digest approximately 750,000 words in one go.

Despite being a cutting-edge model, Premier falls short in certain academic and coding benchmarks when compared to competitors. On SWE-Bench Verified, a benchmark for software engineering tasks, it trails Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro. Similarly, in math and science evaluations like GPQA Diamond and AIME 2025, it shows limited strength.

Where Nova Premier Shines

Amazon highlights Nova Premier’s superior performance in knowledge retrieval and visual reasoning tasks. Benchmarks such as SimpleQA and MMMU reflect the model’s strong ability to recall information and interpret images accurately — areas crucial for applications in research, customer support, and visual analytics.

In terms of pricing, Premier is offered at $2.50 per million input tokens and $12.50 per million output tokens, aligning closely with Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro rates.

Not Built for Reasoning, But Ideal for Distillation

Unlike reasoning-focused models like OpenAI’s o4-mini or DeepSeek’s R1, Nova Premier is not structured to process queries using additional time or computational steps for refined logic or fact-checking. However, its high-level capabilities make it a strong candidate for model distillation, a process where a powerful model is used to train smaller, faster systems tailored to specific tasks.

AI Driving Amazon’s Growth Ambitions

Amazon continues to position artificial intelligence as a cornerstone of its business strategy. CEO Andy Jassy recently confirmed that the company is developing over 1,000 generative AI tools, with AI-driven services now contributing to a multi-billion-dollar annual revenue run rate and experiencing triple-digit growth year over year.

With Nova Premier, Amazon is not just building a more powerful AI — it’s constructing a scalable future where enterprise-grade intelligence becomes modular, adaptable, and more widely distributed through Bedrock.
