India’s artificial intelligence ecosystem continues to attract global tech investment, and the launch of the Anthropic Bengaluru office marks a significant step in the company’s expansion strategy. The AI firm announced new partnerships across enterprise, education, agriculture and public sector initiatives, reinforcing its commitment to one of its fastest-growing markets.

India has emerged as the second-largest market for Claude.ai, with nearly half of usage tied to computer and mathematical tasks such as application development, system modernization and production software deployment. With the Anthropic Bengaluru office, the company aims to accelerate AI adoption while building responsible and scalable solutions tailored to India’s needs.

Anthropic Bengaluru Office Expands India Presence

The opening of the Anthropic Bengaluru office signals deeper engagement with India’s technology ecosystem. According to Irina Ghose, Managing Director of India at Anthropic, the country offers strong digital infrastructure, world-class technical talent and widespread technology adoption.

The company views India as a major opportunity to expand responsible AI adoption across industries and communities. The Bengaluru team will help enterprises, digital-native companies and startups design and scale AI-powered solutions using Claude’s capabilities.

Anthropic’s revenue run rate in India has doubled since announcing expansion plans in October 2025, reflecting growing demand across sectors ranging from large enterprises to early-stage startups.

Improving AI Language Capabilities for India

A key focus for the Anthropic Bengaluru office is strengthening language support for India’s diverse population. More than one billion people speak one of India’s officially recognized languages, yet AI systems often perform better in English.

To address this gap, Anthropic launched an initiative to improve training data across 10 widely spoken Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam and Urdu. The effort has already enhanced model fluency, with further improvements underway.

The company is also collaborating with organizations such as Karya and the Collective Intelligence Project to evaluate AI performance in locally relevant domains like agriculture and law. These evaluations, developed with experts from nonprofits such as Digital Green and Adalat AI, will help refine future models and support India-specific applications.

Enterprise and Startup Partnerships Drive AI Adoption

The Anthropic Bengaluru office will provide applied AI expertise to organizations building Claude-powered solutions. Several enterprises and startups in India are already integrating the company’s AI tools.

Air India is using Claude Code to accelerate custom software development and implement agentic AI across operations. Financial services platform CRED reports faster feature delivery and improved testing outcomes using the technology. Meanwhile, Cognizant is deploying Claude across 350,000 employees globally to modernize legacy systems and support enterprise AI adoption.

Among startups, Razorpay integrates AI into risk systems and decision-making processes, while Enterpret uses Claude to power its AI assistant and customer insights platform. Another startup, Emergent, built entirely with Claude, reached $25 million in annual recurring revenue and two million users within five months.

Expanding Educational Access Through AI

Education is another major priority for the Anthropic Bengaluru office, as instructional tasks account for a significant share of Claude’s usage in India.

Anthropic partnered with Pratham, one of India’s largest education nonprofits, to pilot its AI-powered Anytime Testing Machine across multiple schools. The program supports students preparing for exams and aims to create flexible pathways for learning and certification.

The company is also working with the Central Square Foundation to develop AI-enabled tools such as personalized tutors, teacher coaching platforms and assessment-driven instruction systems. These initiatives aim to improve learning outcomes for students in underserved communities.

Public Sector and Agriculture Applications

The Anthropic Bengaluru office is also exploring public sector applications. The company is partnering with the EkStep Foundation to examine how AI can enhance India’s digital public infrastructure and deliver large-scale impact.

Agriculture, which represents a significant share of India’s economy and workforce, is a major focus area. Through the OpenAgriNet initiative, Anthropic is working on AI deployments that provide farmers with improved access to expert knowledge.

The company is also supporting healthcare and legal access initiatives. Organizations such as Noora Health and Intelehealth use Claude-powered tools to provide medical support and health coaching. Meanwhile, Adalat AI is launching a national WhatsApp helpline that uses Claude to deliver case updates, document summaries and translations in regional languages.

Driving Open Standards and AI Ecosystem Growth

Anthropic is also promoting open standards to support AI adoption. The company created the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open-source framework for connecting AI applications to external systems, and donated it to the Linux Foundation.

India’s Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation recently launched the country’s first government MCP server, allowing users to access official national statistics through AI systems. In the private sector, companies such as Swiggy are using MCP to enable services like grocery ordering and restaurant reservations through Claude.

Growing Talent and Innovation in India

The Anthropic Bengaluru office, the company’s second in Asia after Tokyo, will focus on hiring local talent across multiple roles. The expansion reflects Anthropic’s long-term strategy to build AI solutions that address regional needs while supporting global innovation.
