Anthropic is taking a major step toward turning its AI chatbot into a true work hub. On Monday, the company announced the launch of Claude interactive apps, a new feature that lets users access and control third-party workplace tools directly from within the Claude interface.
The rollout reinforces Anthropic’s strong enterprise focus, with early integrations centered on productivity and collaboration rather than consumer apps.
What Claude Interactive Apps Can Do
With Claude’s interactive apps, users can now open live, authenticated versions of popular services inside Claude. The initial lineup includes Slack, Canva, Figma, Box, and Clay, with Salesforce support expected soon.
Depending on the app, users can send Slack messages, generate charts, design visuals, or retrieve cloud-based files—without leaving the chatbot.
“Analyzing data, designing content, and managing projects all work better with a dedicated visual interface,” Anthropic said. “Combined with Claude’s intelligence, you can work and iterate faster than either could offer alone.”
Who Gets Access
Claude interactive apps are available to Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscribers. Free users are excluded from the initial rollout. Eligible users can browse and activate integrations through the Claude app directory.
This pricing and access structure underscores Anthropic’s strategy: Claude is being positioned less as a casual chatbot and more as an AI layer for professional workflows.
Built on an Open Standard
Technically, Claude interactive apps are powered by the Model Context Protocol (MCP), an open standard introduced by Anthropic in 2024. MCP allows AI models to securely connect to external tools and data sources.
The system closely mirrors OpenAI’s Apps framework, launched last October. Both companies collaborated on MCP development, and app support officially arrived for the protocol in November—making this rollout a natural next step.
How Claude Cowork Fits In
The new apps become even more compelling when paired with Claude Cowork, Anthropic’s agent-based productivity tool launched last week. Cowork allows users to assign complex, multistage tasks that previously required scripting or terminal commands.
Combined with Claude interactive apps, Cowork could eventually update a marketing design in Figma, pull fresh numbers from Box, or manage ongoing projects across connected tools. Anthropic confirmed that app support for Cowork is “coming soon,” though it’s not live at launch.
Safety and Permissions Still Matter
Anthropic is also emphasizing caution. Agentic systems can behave unpredictably, and the company’s safety guidance urges users to carefully control permissions.
“Be cautious about granting access to sensitive information like financial documents, credentials, or personal records,” Anthropic advises. It also recommends creating dedicated folders for Claude rather than granting broad system access.
Why This Matters
The launch of Claude interactive apps highlights a broader shift in AI: chatbots are evolving into operational interfaces, not just conversation tools. Instead of switching between apps, professionals may increasingly use AI as the central control layer for daily work.
For Anthropic, this move puts Claude in more direct competition with OpenAI’s enterprise offerings—and signals that the race to own AI-powered workflows is heating up fast.
