Anthropic has officially introduced the long-awaited Claude Google Workspace integration, a feature that allows its AI assistant to access Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Docs for smarter and more personalized responses.
Announced on Tuesday, the Claude Google Workspace integration is launching in beta for Anthropic’s Max, Team, Enterprise, and Pro subscribers. Multi-user accounts will require an administrator to activate the feature before individuals can link their Google accounts to Claude, according to the company.
This new move puts Anthropic in direct competition with rivals like OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which integrates with Google Drive, and Google DeepMind’s Gemini, which also taps into Google Workspace. However, Anthropic’s Claude is one of the first non-Google AIs to offer such deep integration with the tech giant’s productivity suite.
Anthropic claims the Claude Google Workspace integration will reduce the need for repetitive uploads or overly detailed prompts. The AI can now surface relevant emails, documents, and calendar entries, delivering more precise and context-aware replies.
In its announcement, Anthropic pitched real-life examples of how the feature can help busy users, such as scanning emails and calendar invites to highlight family commitments, fetching local event schedules, or even factoring weather forecasts into recommendations.
To address security concerns, Anthropic clarified that Claude Google Workspace integration does not enable the AI to send emails or schedule calendar events. The company stressed that strict access controls are in place and that Claude doesn’t train on user data by default.
“Each user’s connection to services like Gmail or Google Drive is authenticated and isolated,” an Anthropic spokesperson emphasized, highlighting that Claude cannot transfer data across accounts.
In addition to the Claude Google Workspace integration, Anthropic also introduced a new feature called Claude Research. Designed to deliver deep research answers, this tool performs multiple web searches and compiles comprehensive responses in under a minute. While it doesn’t rely on a special model, it leverages Claude’s updated web browsing capabilities for enhanced research output.
Claude Research is now available for Max, Team, and Enterprise plan subscribers across the U.S., Japan, and Brazil, with Pro users set to receive access soon.
These upgrades reflect Anthropic’s aggressive push to close the gap with ChatGPT’s massive user base. Claude attracted over 3.3 million web users in March, according to SimilarWeb, but it still trails far behind OpenAI’s widely adopted AI chatbot.
