Cursor, the fast-growing coding assistant that has become a favorite among modern software teams, has just secured a massive $2.3 billion raise—a staggering milestone that comes barely five months after its previous round.

With this new Cursor AI funding round, the company’s valuation has now skyrocketed to $29.3 billion, more than doubling its $9.9 billion valuation from June’s $900 million Series C. That kind of acceleration is almost unheard of, even in today’s overheated AI market.

Cursor’s CEO and co-founder, Michael Truell, told The Wall Street Journal that the fresh capital will help the company aggressively develop Composer, an AI model Cursor unveiled in October. While Cursor still depends heavily on outside models from Google, OpenAI, and Anthropic, the long-term plan is for Composer to handle more of the platform’s workloads.

The timing of the Cursor AI funding round is interesting, especially with competitors sharpening their own coding assistants. Both OpenAI and Anthropic have been heavily investing in their developer-facing products, setting the stage for a high-stakes showdown in 2025.

Cursor, however, continues to ride on strong momentum. Adoption is growing rapidly, enterprise appetite shows no signs of slowing, and the company is positioning itself as the coding companion that developers rely on daily.
