Meta is stepping into the AI-powered dating scene with its new Facebook AI dating assistant, designed to help users find matches more closely aligned with their preferences. The company announced on Monday that this AI chatbot will make dating on Facebook more personalized and engaging for millions of users.
With the Facebook AI dating assistant, users can request tailored suggestions such as “a Brooklyn girl in tech” or even ask the AI to refine their profiles for better matches. The goal is to reduce the time spent endlessly swiping and make dating feel more meaningful.
Meet Cute Alongside the Facebook AI Dating Assistant
As part of this update, Meta is rolling out a feature called Meet Cute alongside the Facebook AI dating assistant. This tool delivers a weekly “surprise match” based on the app’s matching algorithm, helping users break free from traditional swiping fatigue.
Meta reports that Facebook Dating has seen a 10% year-over-year growth in matches among 18- to 29-year-olds, with hundreds of thousands of new profiles created monthly. While this growth is notable, it still trails behind giants like Tinder with 50 million daily active users and Hinge with 10 million.
AI Dating Competition Heats Up
The Facebook AI dating assistant joins a growing list of AI-powered dating innovations in the industry. Match Group — owner of Tinder, Hinge, and OKCupid — has invested over $20 million in AI, integrating tools like AI photo selectors for Tinder and AI-powered profile enhancements for Hinge.
Bumble has also embraced AI, with founder Whitney Wolfe Herd hinting at a future where personal AI concierges could even go on “virtual dates” to assess compatibility before real-life meetings.
With AI dating features now common across major platforms, Meta’s Facebook AI dating assistant could be the company’s move to stand out in a crowded dating app market.
