Google AI Mode, the company’s experimental tool for enhanced search interactions, is now available to a broader audience with upgraded functionality that makes navigating complex queries and follow-ups easier than ever.

Initially launched in March as a response to tools like ChatGPT Search and Perplexity AI, Google AI Mode allows users to ask layered, in-depth questions and follow up with context-aware queries directly within Google Search. Now, the company is eliminating the waitlist for U.S. users over 18 who are enrolled in Google Labs, giving significantly more people the opportunity to try it firsthand.

From Waitlist to Wider Search Integration

Google is not only opening up AI Mode access through Labs, but is also quietly testing a dedicated AI Mode tab within Google Search itself. A limited number of U.S. users will begin seeing this feature as part of an early rollout beyond the experimental platform.

This change marks a significant shift as the company increasingly integrates generative AI directly into the everyday search experience. The move aims to solidify Google’s competitive position as more users explore AI-driven alternatives for search and information discovery.

The newest version of Google AI Mode adds tools that go far beyond answering typical questions. Visual product and place cards are now built into results, making it easier to browse recommendations, such as restaurant ratings or product prices, without leaving the conversation.

For instance, if you search for “top vintage stores near me with mid-century furniture,” AI Mode can highlight relevant nearby spots and display real-time information like store hours, current traffic, and direct links for calls or directions.

Product discovery is also enhanced. You could search for something like “best foldable camping chair for under $100 that fits in a backpack,” and receive curated product suggestions complete with current pricing, images, availability, and shipping info from multiple retailers.

Continue Where You Left Off — Seamlessly

Google is also introducing a way to resume past AI Mode searches, which is particularly useful for ongoing research or multi-day projects. On desktop, a new left-hand panel allows users to revisit earlier search threads, view previously surfaced results, and continue conversations without starting from scratch.

This continuity feature brings the Google AI Mode experience closer to that of persistent, personalized AI assistants, while staying integrated within the traditional Search interface users are already familiar with.

As AI continues to transform search behavior, Google’s deepened investment in AI Mode signals a new era of intelligent, conversational, and context-rich browsing, right from the world’s most-used search engine.
