The update, initially available in English for US users on Mac and Windows desktops, will gradually expand to mobile platforms, Google Workspace, and other countries.

Gemini Integration Enhances Browsing

One of the headline updates is the integration of Gemini AI into Chrome. Users will now be able to ask Gemini to summarize web pages, explain complex content, or pull information from multiple tabs. Future updates will give Gemini agentic capabilities, such as booking appointments or placing grocery orders, while allowing users to pause or stop these actions at any time.

Google says Gemini will also work seamlessly with other apps like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps, allowing users to interact with multiple services without switching tabs.

• Recall Websites: Users can retrieve previously visited pages with prompts like “what was the website where I saw the walnut desk last week?”
• AI Mode in Omnibox: Enables longer, more detailed queries directly from the address bar.
• Contextual AI Overviews: A side panel offering quick, summarized answers relevant to the current page.
• Enhanced Safe Browsing: Gemini Nano will detect scams, fake viruses, and misleading giveaways.
• Spam Reduction: Chrome’s AI has already eliminated around 3 billion unwanted notifications daily on Android by learning user preferences and blocking spammy alerts.

User Control and Privacy

Google emphasizes that despite the expanded AI capabilities, users maintain control over AI actions. All agentic tasks, personalized recommendations, and security features can be customized or disabled according to individual preferences.

“Today represents the biggest upgrade to Chrome in its history, as we share how we’re using the latest in Google AI to enhance your browsing experience,” said Mike Torres, vice president of product for Chrome.
