Google is introducing Google Photos AI editing for Android, allowing users to enhance, modify, or creatively transform their photos simply by talking to or texting the AI. Announced on Tuesday, the Gemini-powered feature makes it easier to edit photos without navigating traditional tools or menus.

How Google Photos AI Editing Works

With Google Photos AI editing, users can tap the “Help me edit” button in the photo editor and describe changes in natural language. You can request anything from lighting adjustments and background object removal to restoring old photos or adding creative AI-generated elements.

If users aren’t sure where to start, Gemini provides suggested edits or can automatically “make it better” based on its AI analysis. The AI also supports follow-up requests, enabling users to fine-tune their photos interactively.

Availability and Device Support

Initially, Google Photos AI editing was available for Pixel 10 users in the U.S. as of August. Google has now expanded support to all Android users 18 and older in the U.S., with the feature currently functioning in English.

Alongside the AI editing tool, Google Photos now supports C2PA Content Credentials, which identify when images were AI-generated. This helps users distinguish between original and AI-modified content, a feature first rolled out to Pixel devices.

A Smarter Way to Edit Photos

By combining natural language input with Gemini AI, Google Photos AI editing removes the complexity of traditional photo editing tools. Users no longer need to understand which slider or button to use — they can simply describe the desired change, making creative editing accessible to everyone.
