Intrinsic Google Robotics Software Acquisition Signals Major Push Into Physical AI

Google is accelerating its ambitions in the physical AI space. In a strategic shift that strengthens its robotics portfolio, an Alphabet-owned robotics software company Intrinsic, is now formally joining Google, marking a significant Google robotics software acquisition move.

Intrinsic, originally incubated within Alphabet’s X moonshot division, will remain a distinct entity but operate more closely alongside Google DeepMind. The company will also integrate Google’s Gemini AI models and leverage Google Cloud infrastructure.

Google Robotics Software Acquisition Deepens Physical AI Strategy

The Google robotics software acquisition brings Intrinsic back into Google’s core ecosystem after it spun out as an independent Alphabet subsidiary in 2021. Intrinsic had spent five years developing robotics software inside X before its graduation.

The company later formed a joint venture with electronics manufacturer Foxconn in 2025, focusing on intelligent robots designed to transform electronics manufacturing. Despite a workforce reduction in early 2023, Intrinsic continued refining its technology stack, particularly in simulation and robotics AI.

Research from Deloitte’s Tech Trends reports and analyses by McKinsey have also emphasized that robotics and automation are moving from research prototypes into scalable industrial deployment. Google’s consolidation of Intrinsic suggests it intends to compete more directly in that space.
