Just Eat AI Voice Assistant Launched to Answer the Ultimate Question: What’s for Dinner?

The nightly struggle of deciding what to eat may soon be a lot easier. Food delivery giant Just Eat Takeaway.com has unveiled a new Just Eat AI voice assistant, designed to help users discover meals, restaurants, groceries, and even pharmacy products—simply by asking.

The AI-powered feature allows users to speak naturally, whether their requests are clear or vague, and receive tailored recommendations based on their needs. According to the company, the assistant understands unstructured questions and works across more than a dozen languages.

How the AI Food Assistant Works

The Just Eat AI voice assistant can handle everything from broad questions like “What should I eat tonight?” to specific requests such as dietary preferences or ingredient-based meals.

In a promotional demo, the assistant is shown adding all the ingredients for a carbonara to a digital shopping basket, then offering nearby restaurants where the same dish can be ordered for delivery instead. Users can seamlessly switch between voice and touch controls, creating what Just Eat calls a “blended interaction model.”

This flexibility is intended to make the platform more inclusive, particularly for users with visual impairments or limited mobility.

Tackling ‘Choice Overload’

Just Eat says one of the main goals of the Just Eat AI voice assistant is to combat “choice overload”—the paralysis that comes from scrolling through thousands of food and product options.

By narrowing down recommendations and offering intelligent suggestions, the AI aims to speed up decision-making and improve the overall ordering experience.

Part of a Bigger AI Push in Food Delivery

Just Eat Takeaway.com isn’t alone in experimenting with AI-powered ordering. Fast food chains such as Popeyes are reportedly testing voice-based AI systems in the UK, particularly for drive-thru ordering.

The rollout of the Just Eat AI voice assistant reflects a broader industry trend toward conversational commerce, where voice and AI reduce friction between intent and purchase.

UK-First Launch, Global Plans Ahead

For now, the AI voice assistant is only available to users in the United Kingdom. However, Just Eat confirmed plans to expand the feature internationally later this year.

“We are harnessing the power of AI to empower everyday convenience across our entire network,” said Mert Öztekin, the company’s chief technology officer.

“From intuitive customer personalisation and partner success to smarter logistics, we are embedding automation into every interaction to deliver a seamless, efficient journey that creates real value for everyone,” he added.

Why This Matters

As AI assistants become more conversational and context-aware, platforms like Just Eat are betting that voice-first experiences will redefine how people shop for food and essentials.

If successful, the Just Eat AI voice assistant could set a new standard for convenience—turning indecision into instant action with just a few spoken words.
