Meta is teaming up with semiconductor giant Arm in a major new partnership designed to supercharge the company’s AI infrastructure.
The Meta Arm partnership marks a strategic move to scale Meta’s recommendation and ranking systems — the AI engines behind Facebook, Instagram, and Threads — using Arm’s Neoverse platform, recently optimized for high-performance AI operations in the cloud.
Powering AI for 3 Billion Users
“AI is transforming how people connect and create,” said Santosh Janardhan, Meta’s Head of Infrastructure.
“Partnering with Arm enables us to efficiently scale that innovation to the more than 3 billion people who use Meta’s apps and technologies.”
While Arm is best known for its mobile CPU architecture that powers most smartphones, the company is now pushing deeper into cloud and AI applications — particularly where power efficiency is key.
Efficiency at Scale
“AI’s next era will be defined by delivering efficiency at scale,” said Rene Haas, CEO of Arm.
“Partnering with Meta, we’re uniting Arm’s performance-per-watt leadership with Meta’s AI innovation.”
The Meta Arm partnership is expected to help Meta achieve higher efficiency across its growing AI infrastructure — a crucial factor as the company builds massive new data centers to support generative AI, video recommendation engines, and the upcoming Meta AI assistant.
Massive Infrastructure Expansion
Meta is investing heavily in what’s being described as one of the largest AI infrastructure buildouts in history.
- Project Prometheus – A new data center in New Albany, Ohio, expected to deliver multiple gigawatts of power by 2027, including a 200-megawatt natural gas plant to support its operations.
- Project Hyperion – A 2,250-acre data campus in northwest Louisiana planned to provide 5 gigawatts of compute power by 2030.
These projects underscore Meta’s push to expand its computational capabilities to meet future AI demand — from immersive AR experiences to advanced recommendation engines.
A Partnership Unlike Others
Unlike Nvidia’s aggressive AI investments — such as its $100 billion phased commitment to OpenAI and billion-dollar funding of xAI and Mistral — the Meta Arm partnership is strictly collaborative, not financial.
The two companies will not exchange ownership stakes or physical infrastructure. Instead, they’re combining Arm’s hardware design expertise with Meta’s software and AI systems to build more sustainable, high-performance AI operations.
Meanwhile, AMD is also stepping up its game, recently agreeing to supply OpenAI with 6 gigawatts of compute power in exchange for stock options worth up to 10% of the company — signaling just how competitive the AI hardware race has become.
