Notion has officially entered the email game. On Tuesday, the company rolled out Notion Mail, an AI-powered email client for Gmail designed to transform how users manage and interact with their inboxes.
The new AI-powered email client for Gmail connects directly to users’ Google accounts, helping automate inbox organization, streamline responses, suggest meetings, and intelligently search messages — all while integrating seamlessly with the wider Notion workspace.
Available to all Notion users, the email client’s AI-powered tools are free within a monthly usage limit, with unlimited access offered via a paid plan.
With the release of Notion Mail, the company is stepping into an increasingly competitive space where startups like Superhuman and Fyxer are already vying to modernize email through artificial intelligence. However, Notion believes its deep integration into a modular workspace will set its solution apart.
Jason Ginsberg, lead for Notion Mail and co-founder of encrypted collaboration platform Skiff (acquired by Notion in early 2024), explained the approach was about more than layering AI onto an existing inbox.
“The way we built Notion Mail is almost down to the building blocks, or the fundamentals of how email works,” Ginsberg told TechCrunch. “It’s really modular. You can configure Notion Mail in ways we can’t even imagine — so it actually works the way you prefer.”
One of the standout features of Notion’s AI-powered email client for Gmail is its ability to create intelligent “views” — AI-generated folders that automatically sort emails by topic. This allows users to skip endless scrolling through chaotic inboxes and instead zero in on specific conversations, like job applications or customer feedback, all organized automatically by Notion AI.
Beyond sorting, Notion Mail is also designed to enhance productivity through integrations with the company’s ecosystem. For instance, if an email chain mentions scheduling a meeting, the AI can pull availability from Notion Calendar and even propose times, all within the same workflow.
While AI-generated writing assistance has become table stakes for email clients, Ginsberg believes that Notion Mail’s true innovation lies in its emphasis on inbox organization, not just composition.
“The big change is it’s no longer feeling like a burden where you are going through the same never-ending list, one-size-fits-all inbox and manually triaging emails,” he said. “Our focus is not to have you work faster in the old way of things. It’s really a new way and a new approach.”
Looking ahead, Notion plans to expand the capabilities of its AI-powered email client for Gmail with features like multi-inbox views and dedicated iOS and mobile apps — along with deeper connections across the entire Notion productivity suite.
As AI continues reshaping traditional workflows, Notion is betting its unified, AI-driven workspace will stand out in a market crowded with standalone apps and partial solutions.
