The Ring Search Party feature, an AI-powered tool designed to help reunite lost dogs with their owners, is getting a major expansion. Ring announced that the feature is now available to everyone in the U.S.—including people who don’t own a Ring camera.

Previously limited to Ring camera owners, the Ring Search Party feature can now be accessed directly through the Ring app, dramatically widening the network of people who can help locate missing pets.

How the Ring Search Party Feature Works

Launched last fall, the Ring Search Party feature uses artificial intelligence to scan neighborhood camera footage for potential matches when a dog is reported missing.

Here’s how it works:

• A pet owner reports a lost dog through the Ring app
• Nearby outdoor Ring cameras automatically scan recent footage using AI
• If a possible match is detected, the camera owner receives an alert
• Neighbors can choose to share video clips or contact the pet owner—without revealing personal phone numbers

Ring says the system has been successfully reuniting more than one dog per day since launch.

Why Opening the Feature Matters

By expanding the Ring Search Party feature to non-camera owners, Ring is turning lost-pet recovery into a true community effort.

“Now, pet owners can mobilize the whole community—and communities are empowered to help—to find lost pets more effectively than ever before,” said Jamie Siminoff, founder of Ring.

The feature is powered through Ring’s Neighbors platform, where users can share safety alerts, updates, and now lost dog reports—regardless of whether they own Ring hardware.

Amazon-Owned Ring Backs Expansion With $1M Commitment

Alongside the feature rollout, Amazon-owned Ring announced a $1 million commitment to equip animal shelters with Ring camera systems.

The initiative aims to support 4,000 animal shelters across the U.S., adding them to Ring’s camera network so shelters can:

• Identify incoming lost dogs faster
• Match pets with Search Party alerts
• Improve reunification rates nationwide

Ring already partners with animal welfare organizations like Petco Love and Best Friends Animal Society, and says it’s open to expanding those collaborations.
