If you’re a YouTube creator tired of digging through royalty-free libraries or worrying about copyright strikes, YouTube just dropped a game-changing update: a free AI music-making tool built right into the Creator Music marketplace.

The feature is currently rolling out gradually to U.S. creators who are part of the YouTube Partner Program and have access to Creator Music—YouTube’s built-in music licensing hub launched in 2023.

But this time, instead of choosing from pre-made tracks, you can generate your own music using AI prompts—no musical background required.

How It Works: Create AI-Generated Tracks with Text Prompts

Once the update is available to you, a new “Music Assistant” tab will appear inside Creator Music. That’s where the AI magic happens.

You just type in a few details about the kind of background track you need—like:

  • Mood (e.g. chill, energetic, cinematic)
  • Instruments (e.g. guitar, synth, drums)
  • Video type (e.g. travel vlog, tutorial, gaming montage)
  • Or anything else you want the music to reflect

YouTube also offers prompt suggestions to get you started if you’re not sure what to type.

Once you submit your prompt, the tool generates instrumental tracks on the spot. You can then download the track and add it directly to your video—no licensing fees, no copyright claims.

Free, Copyright-Safe, and Creator-Friendly

Unlike traditional music licensing, AI-generated tracks from Music Assistant are completely free to use. You won’t need to worry about Content ID matches or post-publish copyright flags—something that has frustrated creators for years.

This could make Creator Music a one-stop solution for everything from premium licensed tracks to totally custom AI-generated audio.

How It’s Different from Dream Track

This isn’t YouTube’s first rodeo with AI music. The company previously launched an experiment called Dream Track, powered by DeepMind’s Lyria model, which allowed users to create 30-second clips in the style of real artists.

But unlike Dream Track, the new Music Assistant tool is focused on generating original, instrumental backing tracks, not celebrity mimicry. It’s practical, copyright-safe, and ready to be used commercially by creators right now.

Why This Matters for Creators

With the rise of short-form and long-form content on YouTube, creators are under more pressure than ever to produce unique, high-quality audio for their videos.

This new YouTube AI music tool could eliminate:

  • The cost of music licensing
  • The hassle of finding royalty-free tracks
  • The risk of copyright takedowns or demonetization

And best of all? It’s built directly into the platform.
