Adobe AI Assistants Launch for Express and Photoshop, Redefining Creative Workflow

Adobe has officially launched its new AI assistants for Express and Photoshop, marking a major evolution in how users create and edit digital content. The Adobe AI assistants are designed to simplify image generation, streamline workflows, and empower creators with smart, intuitive tools.

Express Gets a Prompt-Based Creation Mode

Unlike most companies that tuck AI assistants into a sidebar, Adobe is experimenting with an entirely new interface. In Adobe Express, users can now switch to a dedicated assistant mode that allows them to use text prompts to design new images, layouts, and graphics.

This new mode enables seamless transitions between AI prompt-based creation and manual editing tools—offering both accessibility and control.

“We think this approach of switching between two modes, where you get the best of both worlds, is going to make the technology both accessible and controllable,” said Alexandru Costin, Adobe’s VP of Generative AI, in an interview with TechCrunch.

Adobe says this feature primarily targets students and professionals, testing how far users can go without switching back to the traditional interface.

Photoshop’s Smart Sidebar Assistant

Meanwhile, Photoshop gets its own Adobe AI assistant, now in closed beta. Integrated into the sidebar, this assistant can understand complex layer structures and automatically handle repetitive editing tasks—like object selection, masking, and background removal.

Adobe claims the Photoshop assistant enhances both speed and precision, making creative workflows more efficient.

Project Moonlight

Project Moonlight: A Unified AI Future

Adobe is also working on a next-generation AI coordination system called Project Moonlight. This ambitious experiment aims to connect multiple Adobe AI assistants across different Creative Cloud apps.

Project Moonlight will eventually allow AI assistants to understand a creator’s style by linking to social channels, enabling personalized and consistent creative outputs. Currently, the project is in private beta.

Third-Party AI Models Now in Photoshop

In addition to Adobe AI assistants, the company announced expanded AI model integration for its Creative Cloud suite. Photoshop users can now choose between Google’s Gemini 2.5 Flash and Black Forest Labs’ FLUX.1 Kontext for tasks like generative fill, object removal, and image extension.

For video creators, Premiere Pro gains a new AI-powered object mask that automatically detects people or objects, allowing precise color correction and effect placement with minimal effort.

A Step Toward Smarter, Connected Creativity

The release of Adobe AI assistants highlights Adobe’s growing commitment to blending human creativity with intelligent automation. With these innovations, Adobe is not just enhancing its design tools—it’s redefining what creativity looks like in the age of generative AI.
