Google Gemini App Crosses 750 Million Monthly Users as AI Adoption Surges

The Google Gemini app has officially crossed 750 million monthly active users, marking one of the fastest adoption curves ever seen for a consumer AI product. The milestone was disclosed during Alphabet’s fourth-quarter 2025 earnings call and underscores how quickly generative AI is moving from experimentation to everyday use.

Just one quarter ago, Google reported 650 million monthly users for the Gemini app. That jump of 100 million users in a matter of months highlights how aggressively Google has been pushing Gemini across Search, Android, Workspace, and standalone consumer experiences.

The growth also places Gemini App firmly among the top AI platforms globally—though the competitive race is far from over.

How Gemini App Stacks Up Against Rivals

In the crowded AI chatbot market, scale matters. With 750 million monthly users, the Google Gemini app has now overtaken several competitors, including Meta’s Meta AI, which has reported nearly 500 million monthly users.

However, Gemini App still trails its biggest rival, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which analysts estimate had around 810 million monthly active users by late 2025. The gap is narrowing, but ChatGPT remains the single most-used AI chatbot worldwide.

That said, Google’s advantage lies in distribution. Gemini is deeply embedded across Google’s ecosystem, giving it exposure to billions of users through products they already rely on daily.

Gemini 3: A Key Growth Catalyst

Executives were quick to credit the launch of Gemini 3 as a major driver behind the recent surge. The new model, which Google describes as its most advanced to date, delivers responses with greater depth, reasoning ability, and nuance—especially in longer, multi-step conversations.

Sundar Pichai, CEO of Alphabet, described Gemini 3’s rollout in “AI mode” as a clear inflection point for engagement.

“The launch of Gemini 3 was a major milestone, and we have great momentum,” Pichai said during the earnings release.

According to Google, its first-party AI models—including Gemini—now process over 10 billion tokens per minute via direct API usage, reflecting not just consumer growth but also rising enterprise and developer adoption.

Pricing Strategy Aims to Broaden Reach

Another lever behind the Google Gemini app’s growth is pricing. Google recently introduced Google AI Plus, a lower-cost subscription plan priced at $7.99 per month, aimed at more budget-conscious users.

While the plan launched too late to impact the reported quarter, executives believe it will play a meaningful role in sustaining momentum. Google is now clearly pursuing a dual-track strategy: a robust free tier to drive scale, and subscriptions to monetize power users.

“We are focused on a free tier and subscriptions and seeing great growth,” said Philipp Schindler, Google’s chief business officer, during the investor call.

This pricing flexibility may help Google compete more aggressively with premium AI subscriptions like ChatGPT Plus, especially in price-sensitive international markets.

Gemini’s Growth Tied to Alphabet’s Financial Strength

The surge in Gemini usage comes alongside a landmark financial achievement for Alphabet. The company surpassed $400 billion in annual revenue for the first time, a milestone Google attributed in part to growing demand across its AI portfolio.

To support this expansion, Google has continued investing heavily in infrastructure. It recently unveiled Ironwood, the latest generation of its in-house TPU AI accelerator chip, designed to reduce dependence on Nvidia hardware and improve performance at scale.

This vertical integration—spanning models, chips, and consumer platforms—gives Google a structural advantage as AI workloads grow more complex and expensive.

What the 750M Milestone Really Means

Crossing 750 million monthly users positions the Google Gemini app not just as a chatbot, but as a foundational interface for how users interact with Google’s products going forward. Gemini is increasingly shaping search behavior, productivity workflows, and even how users explore information online.

More importantly, the numbers suggest that AI adoption is no longer limited to early adopters. With hundreds of millions of users engaging monthly, generative AI is becoming a mainstream utility—on par with email, search, and messaging.

Whether Gemini can close the remaining gap with ChatGPT will depend on execution, model quality, trust, and how seamlessly Google weaves AI into everyday digital life. But one thing is clear: the AI race has entered its scale phase—and Google is very much in it.
