Global publishing and research giant Wiley has officially launched the Wiley AI Gateway, describing it as “the industry’s first AI-native research intelligence platform.” The new platform connects researchers to peer-reviewed scholarly content from multiple publishers — all accessible through a single, interoperable endpoint.
The Wiley AI Gateway prioritizes interoperability, seamlessly integrating with top AI ecosystems including Anthropic’s Claude, AWS Marketplace, Mistral AI’s Le Chat, and Perplexity. The move is part of Wiley’s broader mission to make validated research data more accessible and reliable within AI-driven workflows.
Bridging AI and Academic Research
“Wiley AI Gateway transforms how researchers harness AI for scientific discovery,” said Jay Flynn, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Research & Learning at Wiley.
“As AI adoption among researchers surged from 57% to 84% in just one year, we recognized the need to meet them where they work — creating infrastructure that ensures AI-powered research is grounded in validated scholarly sources,” Flynn added.
The platform employs advanced content transformation technology to convert peer-reviewed articles and datasets into AI-optimized formats. This preserves citation integrity, methodological context, and peer-review validation — ensuring research remains both accurate and reproducible.
At its core, the system runs on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), allowing AI tools to understand, synthesize, and cite scientific content with precision — a key step toward reducing misinformation in AI-generated outputs.
How Wiley AI Gateway Benefits Researchers and Developers
Currently in beta testing, the Wiley AI Gateway offers unique value to multiple audiences:
- Universities and Research Labs: Enables cross-publisher literature synthesis through AI interfaces like Claude, ensuring all outputs are anchored in peer-reviewed data.
- Corporate R&D Teams: Accelerates innovation by providing validated, multi-disciplinary insights for product development and discovery.
- AI Development Partners: Supports creation of more reliable AI applications by integrating verified content streams that minimize hallucinations and bias.
According to Wiley, the platform also empowers publishers to connect with AI systems without losing ownership or control of their data — a growing concern in the AI era. Early collaborators include SAGE and the American Society for Microbiology (ASM), both joining to build what Wiley calls an “industry-wide solution for trustworthy AI-powered research.”
Industry Leaders Endorse the Initiative
Key AI industry partners have already voiced support.
Lauren Collett, Head of Higher Education Partnerships at Anthropic, said:
“The AI Gateway expands Claude’s research capabilities by connecting it directly to peer-reviewed content. Researchers can now combine trusted literature with Claude’s analytical tools — from statistical modeling to code generation — while maintaining scientific rigor.”
Dan Sheeran, General Manager for Healthcare and Life Sciences at AWS, added:
“Data is the foundation for AI innovation. By integrating Wiley’s AI Gateway into the AWS Marketplace, we’re enabling researchers to focus on discovery, not data procurement.”
A Milestone in AI-Powered Scientific Discovery
With Wiley AI Gateway, the company positions itself at the forefront of ethical and verifiable AI in research — ensuring that the future of AI-driven discovery remains anchored in trustworthy, peer-reviewed information.
As the platform prepares for its full rollout, Wiley’s interoperable approach could set a new global standard for how academic and corporate researchers leverage AI responsibly in their workflows.
