YouTube conversational AI is now making its way to televisions, marking a major step in the evolution of AI-powered entertainment. The platform has expanded its experimental conversational AI tool to smart TVs, gaming consoles, and streaming devices, bringing interactive content discovery directly to the biggest screen in the home.
Previously available only on mobile devices and web browsers, YouTube conversational AI now enables users to ask questions about videos in real time—without leaving or pausing what they are watching. The move highlights YouTube’s growing push to transform passive viewing into an interactive experience.
How YouTube Conversational AI Works
With YouTube conversational AI on TVs, eligible users can click the “Ask” button displayed on the screen to activate the AI assistant. The system provides suggested questions related to the video, or viewers can use their remote’s microphone to ask their own queries.
For example, users watching a cooking video can ask about specific ingredients, while music fans can explore the meaning behind song lyrics or learn about an artist’s background—all instantly within the app.
Currently, the feature is available to a limited group of users aged 18 and above and supports multiple languages, including English, Hindi, Spanish, Portuguese, and Korean.
Growing Demand for AI-Powered Viewing
YouTube first introduced its conversational AI tool in 2024 to help viewers better understand and explore video content. The expansion to TVs reflects shifting viewer habits, as more people now access YouTube through television screens.
According to a Nielsen report from April 2025, YouTube accounted for 12.4% of total television audience time in the U.S., surpassing major streaming platforms such as Disney and Netflix. This growing dominance has pushed YouTube to enhance its smart viewing capabilities using AI-driven technologies.
Competition in the Conversational AI Space
YouTube conversational AI arrives amid rapid innovation across the streaming industry. Amazon has launched Alexa+ for Fire TV devices, enabling natural conversations, personalized recommendations, and scene searches within movies.
Roku has also upgraded its AI voice assistant to answer open-ended questions about films and shows, while Netflix continues testing AI-powered search features to improve content discovery.
Beyond conversational tools, YouTube has introduced several AI-driven features to improve the TV experience. These include automatic video enhancement to full HD quality, an AI comments summarizer for video discussions, and an AI-powered search results carousel. The company has also announced that creators will soon generate Shorts using AI versions of their own likeness.
In addition, YouTube recently launched a dedicated app for Apple Vision Pro, allowing users to watch content on a theater-sized virtual screen within an immersive environment.
As YouTube conversational AI continues to evolve, the platform is positioning itself at the forefront of interactive entertainment—reshaping how audiences discover, engage with, and understand video content.
